The Creative Flair... Characters
Characters make a story interesting and help the story become, well, a story! You can let your creativity flair and make your characters as interesting (or as boring) as you'd like.
Like Allison said in her comment on the last post, setting can completely change the mood of a scene. But characters can also change the scene she described. She wrote:
The scene in the park could be completely different with 2 different moods. You and your partner in crime could be causally strolling taking in the warmth enjoying the breeze when all of the sudden you hear a scream for help. Or you could be in the same park frantically searching for the kidnapped princess in the middle of a thunderstorm and you are drenched in rain and cold, but you must save the princess. Very different scenes who knew it was in the same park!
Allison is absolutely right. However, she also described how the characters are changing the scene. In the first scene she described the main characters were lackadaisical and unassuming. In the second scene the characters were the complete opposite; hard-working, caring, and determine. Therefore, the characters, along with the setting, helped change the scene.
Have fun with creating characters! Characters can show a lot about the author and how the story is going to unfold!
