You're sitting at your computer, surfing Amazon for books, games, music, whatever you want. And then, you realize that there are book recommendations for your age group. So, you go to those and see lots of different books, almost all of them rated 5 stars. And although lots of them seem interesting and cool, are they actually?
This happens to me all the time, and it is really annoying. I hate looking at books online and not actually knowing if they're good or not. And this can happen with all products. I once ordered this suitcase online. The overall rating was good, but when I read some of the reviews, people were like "I hate this suitcase! It broke when I tried to open the zipper and it looked all together cheap!" But then people raved on and on about how amazing the suitcase was.
It turns out that the suitcase is now my favorite one, and it looks very pretty and is very useful for when I travel places (which I do often). But, I've also had really bad luck with ordering books that aren't as interesting or well-written as every single reviewer online has claimed.
So, what do I do? I still haven't totally figured that part out yet. Most of the time, I find people I know who have gotten the product (although this doesn't always work when no one knows what an Original Buddha Board is or whether the certain brand I'm buying it from will provide me with an actually soothing experience). I also just take the risk of looking at reviews. Those reviews where people talk about specific details and seem to really know what they are talking about are more often than not true to their word.
When buying books, I also suggest going to the "presents" lists that are now available due to the upcoming holidays. The lists there are actually really good, and they list a lot of good books.
What helps you find a good book or product online? Tell me in your comment below! I'm also looking for new products to give to family and friends... Do you have any really good must-buys for the holidays?
