One of the best things to do in order to enter Hawaii is to write about it. Now, before you go all crazy and tell me that writing about Hawaii isn't anywhere close to going there, let me make this clear: I completely agree. I went to Hawaii once and I seriously think that no one can completely capture the exotic coconut trees and the purple rolls that are strangely present at every luau. I do believe, however, that writing a story that takes place in Hawaii will help you to overcome the immense sadness you've been faced with once you entered school.
Take yourself to another place. Become the character who finds the beautiful, perfectly intact conch shell while strolling the beaches with their true love in the Bahamas. Feel the waves that give the young boy his first wave to surf. See what happens to your characters as your write, and you might be surprised at the results.
So is writing your literal ticket to Hawaii? Not quite. But it's close enough to make you feel like summer isn't over just yet.
